RetouchPi AI Pricing: Credits, Tiers and Cost per Image

The editor itself costs nothing: fifty-four tools, layers and masks, channels, layered PSD read and write, camera RAW and HEIC opening, and the eleven ways to get a file back out all run without credits. The only step that costs is AI - generation and edits - priced per image, with the quote shown before you commit.

One credit is one US cent

Credits are the only unit in this price list, and there is exactly one conversion: one credit is one US cent. The "this job costs N credits" number in the editor, divided by a hundred, is the dollar figure - no rate card to look up. The same conversion lives in three places in the code (checkout, AI pricing, the pricing endpoint) and all three move together, so the number you are quoted is the number that lands.

  • Top-ups come in four fixed amounts: $10, $20, $50 and $100, which are 1,000, 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000 credits. There is no free-amount field; those four are the whole menu.
  • The $10 floor is deliberate: every payment carries a per-transaction fee, and a smaller top-up would buy almost nothing after it. The server refuses anything above $1,000.
  • A balance never shrinks on its own: the account has no expiry column, and only four things move it - a top-up, a spend, a refund, or a manual adjustment. Credits you do not use stay put.

Three tiers, picked by how good the picture has to be

A tier picks how strong the upstream model is, not how big the picture is. The fast tier only generates (it does not edit) and charges the same at any size; the other two do both, and 2K costs roughly double 1K. The table below is read live from the pricing endpoint, the same source the editor quotes from as you move the sliders - if a price changes, this table changes with it, without republishing the page.

If the endpoint cannot be reached the table collapses entirely and points you at the live quote in the editor's AI panel. It never falls back to a price list baked into the page: a stale number is worse than no number.

credits per image · 1 credit = $0.01 · up to 4 images · each side 512–2048px

How size is priced

  • Both sides have to land between 512 and 2048 pixels, and the total cannot exceed 2048x2048. The panel offers ten presets, five per bucket, and also takes a custom ratio that matches the layer you are working on.
  • The bucket looks only at the long side: 1280 or under is 1K, above it is 2K. So 1280x720 bills as 1K and 1152x2048 bills as 2K.
  • A job carries at most four images and the price scales linearly. The server clamps the count to 1..4 before it prices anything, so the quote you see and the amount charged are the same number - they used not to be, and that path now clamps first and prices second.

Edits cost a little more than generation, because they carry a source image

An AI edit works on the picture you hand it, so the request carries a source image alongside the prompt. That image is fitted by the same rules first: a long side over 2048 is scaled down to 2048, a short side under 512 is scaled up to 512, and an aspect ratio beyond 4:1 gets padding rather than a crop once it is scaled - cropping would decide for you which half to lose. When both sides already sit inside 512..2048, the original bytes go through untouched rather than being re-encoded, because the source is the model's only reference. The upload ceiling is 10MB.

A failed render is refunded

Credits are deducted when the job is created, not after the picture arrives - charging afterwards lets a burst of concurrent jobs drive a balance negative. The trade is that failures have to be given back, so the ledger keeps two numbers per job: what was charged and what was refunded. An upstream error, a content-policy refusal, or a job that stalls and still fails after being re-queued all take the same refund path, for exactly the amount that job took. Those two columns in the job list are the evidence, not a promise.

Results are kept for fourteen days

  • Generated results live on the server and are kept for 14 days (configurable), after which a sweep that runs at most once an hour deletes the files. Download what you want to keep, or drop it into a layer and export it as your own file.
  • The endpoint that serves a result only serves it to you: ownership is checked first, the path is assembled server-side, a path in the request is never honoured, and the resolved file still has to sit under the results directory.
  • After the window, that URL answers 404 "result expired" rather than an error page. That is the intended reply: the file really is gone.

The larger half, which costs nothing

Outside AI generation and edits there is no second metered feature in the editor: opening files, layers and masks, selections and paths, the ten layer styles, liquify, ID photo sheets, slices and artboards, and exporting to PNG, JPEG, WebP, TIFF, PDF, SVG, MP4 or PSD all cost nothing and carry no subscription. Editing does not require an account; signing in is only needed for AI and for looking at your own balance.

The editor canvas carries no ad slots. Other pages on the site do, and a one-time $9.99 removes them; that is a separate product from credits, and buying one does not change the other.

Questions people ask

Can I use it without buying credits?

Yes. Every editor feature is free; only AI generation and AI edits take credits per image. You can retouch and export without signing in - an account is only needed for AI and for checking a balance.

Does asking for four images cost four times as much?

Yes, it scales linearly, up to four images per job. The server clamps the count to 1..4 before pricing, so the quote and the charge are always the same number.

If a render fails, do I get the credits back?

Yes. Credits are taken when the job is created and refunded in full on failure; the ledger records both the charged and the refunded amount per job, and the job list shows them.

Does an AI edit send my original image anywhere?

Yes - it is the only step in the whole flow that goes through a server. The source is uploaded, fitted to 512..2048 per side with a 10MB ceiling, and generated results are deleted from the server after 14 days. Everything except AI - decoding, editing, export - runs in the browser on your own machine.

Do credits expire?

No. Only four things move a balance: a top-up, a spend, a refund, or a manual adjustment - there is no expiry column on the account. Generated results have a 14-day window; credits do not.

Why does the fast tier not cost more at 2K?

Because the upstream for that tier does not price by resolution, and we do not add a markup it does not charge. The other two tiers do price by resolution, which is why their 2K is roughly double their 1K.

The quote in the editor is live

Move the tier, the size or the count in the AI panel and the "this job costs N credits" line updates in place, before you submit. It reads the same endpoint this page reads.
