What is free, which files open, what it exports

Is RetouchPi free?

The fifty-four regular retouching tools are free, with nothing to install and no account needed to edit. Only AI generation and AI edits are metered, and the unit is the credit: 1 credit = 1 US cent, four tiers ($10 / $20 / $50 / $100), and credits never expire or renew.

Does it open and save layered PSD files?

Yes, both ways: layer groups, masks, clipping masks, adjustment layers, blend modes and ten layer styles all survive the round trip. 16-bit PSDs open; PSB and 32-bit files are refused by name, and the editor tells you which one it was.

How far does camera RAW support go?

DNG is really developed, including Apple ProRAW from iPhones and Pixel's compressed flavour 7 (a 12MP ProRAW develops in 2.7s, measured). CR2, NEF, ARW and RAF use the camera's own embedded preview and the editor says which one it used; CR3 previews written after 2024 are HEVC, which browsers cannot decode, and that is stated by name.

Can it open iPhone HEIC photos?

Yes. HEIC, HEIF and AVIF all open directly as of 2026-10-09, including the grid layout every iPhone photo has used since 2017 (a 4032x3024 shot arrives as twelve 1344x756 tiles). When the platform decoder is unavailable it falls back to the Exif preview inside the file, and says which one it used.

Do AI edits flatten my layers?

No. Whatever size the model returns, the result lands back on the rectangle of the layer you picked: same origin, same size, so toggling visibility once is a pixel-for-pixel before and after. Input images are limited to 512-2048 px per side, and anything outside that is scaled or padded first, with the page saying which. The one-click cutout writes a layer mask and leaves the original pixels untouched.

Which formats can it export?

Eleven destinations: layered PSD, PNG, JPEG, WebP and TIFF, PDF at 72 dpi (one pixel, one point), SVG (shapes and type stay vectors, masks become a real mask), MP4 video (long side capped at 1280px, WebM when the browser cannot record MP4), ID photo sheets (six named sizes plus custom, at 300 dpi), slices and artboards.

Can it open print files, and can it export CMYK?

Print files open and the colour space converts, but this version cannot export CMYK. CMYK, Lab and grayscale files all open and edit, 16-bit PSD and TIFF included, and an ICC profile embedded in a PSD is applied on import; the document converts between sRGB and Lab and can be edited in Lab. The boundary, stated plainly: there is no CMYK working mode, exports are sRGB, and there are no separations and no soft proofing.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes. It is a web app with nothing to install: the main bundle is 845KB (272KB gzipped) and the landing page prefetches it while the browser is idle, so the hop into the editor is usually already paid for.
